Nigeria joined ICID in 1970, and since then, has continued to participate actively in ICID activities through the Nigerian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (NINCID), which the Department of Irrigation and Drainage chairs. NINCID coordinates ICID activities in Nigeria and since becoming a member of ICID, has hosted ICID community in Nigeria twice: the first was in 1979 in Lagos and the second, in 1999 in Abuja.
The Mission of NINCID is to act as a national chapter of ICID in Nigeria and together, work towards sustainable irrigation and drainage management through inter-disciplinary approaches and environmentally and sound agricultural and flood management.
The vision of NINCID is to achieve a “water-secured Nigeria, free of poverty and hunger through sustainable water resource management and sanitation.
